Can we please talk about how heartbreaking this scene is?
After everything they’ve been through, they decide to give each other a second chance. Because Callie does believe in love and second chances. Arizona is really trying and she knows that she needs to come clean an be honest about Leah in order to start fresh with Callie. And so she does…
And this is when you realize how broken their relationship really is, when Arizona has to ask her wife if she can give her a hug. She has to ask because she’s not sure Callie wants to be hugged by her after what she’s just said (and everything else). Callie looks down when she answers, as if she was embarrassed to admit she still wants Arizona’s love. HER WIFE’S LOVE.
Callie looks down again as Arizona gets closer, and both look kind of uncomfortable. You can see a shy smile on Arizona’s face, but it doesn’t take much to know this is not her special bubbly smile. She’s trying, really trying…but they both know their relationship is broken, and they both know it’ll take a whole lot to fix it.
And then, when you’re wondering if these two will make it, Callie does that thing, and you can see the pain in her eyes. Pain caused by everything that has happened, everything they’ve said to one another…and not having Arizona by her side. It’s the very first time Callie allows herself to show her feelings in front of her wife. Until this moment, she’s tried to be strong in front of everyone (and specially Arizona), but holding her wife in her arms makes her realize how much she’s missed her, and how right it still feels.
